How to Be More Creative

Creativity isn't limited to those with "talent." True, some people seem to be gifted with artistic abilities. But most artists are born from interest. Just by taking a little bit of time to build on your knowledge or practice a hobby that interests you, you'll find that all it takes is a little imagination!

“Where do I even begin?”

I think the best way to start is by jumping into a DIY project. Whether big or small, you'd be surprised by just how much you can accomplish by imitating something that already exists. If you see a decor item that you admire but can't justify spending the price tag on it: Do It Yourself! Just give it a try. Even if it doesn't look as well as you hoped, you'll still be able to say, "I did that."

Creativity really comes down to having the humility to try something out! Remember that any skill requires time to master. The results of your first try might be trash, yes. But you shouldn't let that discourage you. Creativity is supposed to be fun, so don't take yourself so seriously. Allow yourself to explore. Allow yourself to make mistakes. Art is either the result of trial and error, or the result of a mistake.

TIP:

Bring it to life in your head first! Draw inspiration from what you see around you. Apps like Instagram and Pinterest are great places to find and save ideas of what you'd like to create. You could even put together a dream board, which essentially is a collage of how you envision your project. Now I know you know how to make a collage!

So To Wrap It All Up

Here’s How You Can Be More Creative:

  1. Think of a hobby or a project you would be interested in.

  2. Search for inspiration.

  3. Use your imagination!

  4. Jump right in and don't be afraid of failure.

  5. GIVE YOURSELF GRACE!

Try these tips the next time you feel the urge to create something!
